Until now, the two biggest hurdles to a successful lead apron testing and lead apron tracking program are:
- A system and methodology for actually identifying and tracking all lead aprons in the facility.
- Standards that can be used during the actual apron inspection process.
Some regulatory bodies have rules that aprons should be X-Rayed and others say tactile (feeling the apron for holes) is an acceptable method for inspecting lead aprons.
Currently, to our knowledge, there is no specific regulatory standard that outlines how lead apron testing itself should be performed ONLY that lead apron testing / inspections should be performed.
